General Manager, Marin Group and Director, Marin Aurora
Abe rdeen-born Bisset headed offshore to begin his oil and gas career in his early 20s after joining the Army straight from school and serving six years with the Gordon Highlanders.
He was with Dan Smedvig Drilling for ten years in a variety of drilling roles in the North Sea ⎯ where he first met Marin Group CEO George (Boris) Stroud, then also starting out ⎯ before deciding to change direction, come ashore and join Aberdeen wireline specialist Thistle Well Services as materials co-ordinator.
When Thistle Well Services was acquired by Nabors Drilling, he moved across, specialising first in documentation and then working as drilling materials controller. And after Nabors’ Aberdeen operation was in turn bought by KCA Deutag, Bisset followed, taking responsibility for managing drilling equipment supply to three Shell North Sea platforms.
Bisset’s next move was to another Aberdeen-based drilling services company, Oilfield Material Management. As rentals and sales manager he was involved at every stage of a project ⎯ from quoting and tendering to delivery ⎯ for clients including Schlumberger, Baker Hughes Inteq, and Pathfinder.
From there he went to International Tubular Services to handle all aspects of the company’s drilling rental tools business, working with existing clients and sourcing new business.
Next came eight years at Stable Services, initially as sales manager and later in the additional role of senior account manager for a multiple-rig contract with a major operator. His time at Stable Services ⎯ where clients included AP Moller Maersk Drilling, Baker Oil Tools, Sperry-Sun Halliburton, and Weatherford UK ⎯ was followed by a short stay at John Lawrie Group as sales manager before the offshore division was transferred from Aberdeen to Houston in 2008.
Bisset spent the next two years consulting before joining Marin in Q4 2011, first as Group General Manager and later also as a director of Marin drill tooling operating company Aurora Downhole Solutions Ltd.
In his spare time, Bisset enjoys football, hill walking, reading and the theatre. |
