Early days — the 1980s


1981

  • Consortium Resource Salvage established

1983

Consortium Resources Management (CRM) brochure for the Remote Underwater Excavator (RUE).

  • Consortium Resource Management established
  • Landmark: Remote Underwater Excavator (RUE) launched — the first Mass Flow Excavation tool; in use until 1987

1984

The Remote Underwater Excavator (RUE) was used to remove drill cuttings from the Dunlin A platform in the North Sea, for Shell, in 1984.The Remote Underwater Excavator (RUE) was used with the Allseas Digging Donald, for Shell, in 1984.

  • RUE on Dunlin A platform, removing drill cuttings (Shell)
  • RUE was used with Allseas' Digging Donald, for sand wave clearance (Shell)
  • RUE used for underwater inspection in the Magnus field (BP)

1985

The first Jet Prop mass flow excavation tool - the Jet Prop 5000 - was launched in 1985.The Jet Prop 25000 MFE tool was launched in 1985.

  • Transition from hydraulically-powered tools to Jet Prop water-driven tools invented 
  • Landmark: Jet Prop 5000 launched
    (in use until 1989)
  • Jet Prop 5000 bench-test tool

  • Piper Alpha: Evaluation of jacket excavation of pipe ends, valves (Stena). First excavation team on-site after the disaster
